Reticulated WWI German War Propaganda Portrait Bowl August Von Mackensen c.1914

Description

For your consideration this week is an antique German reticulated rimmed plate, commemorating German General Field Marshal, August Von Mackensen (1849-1945).
This fine porcelain plate has a reticulated edge with green trimming around the slightly scalloped edge. The center transfer portrait is crisp, and shows Field Marshal Von Mackensen in his military uniform, which indicates that this bowl was most likely a propaganda piece intended to generate support for Germany as it headed into WWI. The green oak leaf and acorn wreath retains its rich coloring, and meets at a German Cross, dated 1914, above Von Mackensen’s head. Attached are three index reference cards that came with the plate when it was acquired.
Measures 10” in diameter and stands 1-1/4” tall. Condition is near mint, with no chips, cracks, crazing or repairs. There are some glazing errors on the back (see photos).
No hallmarking, but probably a Dresden commission.
